    J. P. Dancing Bear lives near the Monterey Bay. He is the author of several chapbooks (including What Language, winner of the 2002 Slipstream Prize) and five full-length poetry collections: Billy Last Crow (Turning Point, 2004); Conflicted Light (Salmon Poetry, 2008); and Inner Cities of Gulls (Salmon Poetry, 2010.)

   

    Dancing Bear is also a PEN Oakland-Josephine Miles National Literary Award winner.  His two most recent books are: Family of Marsupial Centaurs (and other birthday poems) to be released by Iris Press, and Fish Singing Foxes to be released by Salmon Poetry.

 

    Dancing Bear's poems have been nominated fourteen times for Pushcart Prizes, once for the Foreward Prize [UK], and four times  for Best of the Web awards.                             

 

     He is a three-time finalist for the   

Mississippi Review Prize, a finalist for the Alice Fay Di Castagnola Award from the Poetry Society of America for his manuscript Gacela (now part of Fish Singing Foxes) His manuscript, Lines Cast (now part of Fish Singing Foxes), was a finalist in the 2008 National Poetry Series.

 

    Dancing Bear is the editor of the American Poetry Journal, owner of Dream Horse Press, publisher of the Orphic Prize and APJ Book Prize series, as well as the first animal rights poetry anthology And We The Creatures.  He is the host of "Out of Our Minds" a weekly radio show for public radio station KKUP featuring some of today's best contemporary poets.

 

    Dancing Bear also works with Nicaraguan poet Blanca Castellon on translating of her poetry into English.
